A Band of Brothers and a Lifetime of Payoffs

Norm Crum, Owner, Valley Pacific Petroleum Services

What’s your approach to getting the most out of each meeting?

I challenge myself to walk away from every Study Group meeting with tangible next steps—usually three to five well-defined action items for the next few months. If I’m taking the time and expense to travel, I want a real payoff. I want it to be worth it.

Has that approach paid off over the years?

Absolutely. In my 30 years of participation, I’ve never left a meeting feeling it was a waste of time. I always come home with smart, relevant, profitable ideas that make a difference. When I look back, I’m confident those ideas have translated into millions of dollars in benefit for my company.

What keeps you coming back?

Beyond the business impact, it’s the people. I’ve found a true “band of brothers”—a group of peers I can talk to about the real challenges and frustrations of running a business. No one else would fully understand, but they do. And that support means more than I can put into words.
